The German word for “intuition” does something quite cool, it literally means “feeling from the belly”. Which is to a good extent what happens when I fold a new model of this sort:
Part of it is actually “computed”, in the sense that I know what I want it to look like and which part of the paper is going to turn into -say- a limb, the head etc…
But computing everything is not only boring, it leaves little space for intuition and improvising, so I usually leave a part of the paper without specifically allocating any function to it. This forms a paper reserve which can be put to use to add elements and balance the overall model according to what I see as it (uhm…) unfolds.
