My eldest daughter had been requesting an “African” mask for a little while and this is what I made of that.
In view of the wonderful books on African art which I have, this model certainly showcases my ignorance of the subject: I couldn’t point to any single one of the many cultures of the continent which somehow could be said to have influenced me to produce this specific piece. And let’s not even begin to touch on the question of cultural appropriation…
All that being said, I hope you’ll find there is beauty here.
