Folded in 2022 from a rectangle of Arches watercolour paper
Model height: ca 20cm
I’d been meaning to illustrate this particular verse of a Jacques Brel song for a long time – the song is called “La ville s’endormait”, a melancholic reflection on aging. The verse itself evokes the colour of the sky, a corner of which is said to be burning over the river, as if it were part of a composition.
The picture I have for this character is of her sitting somewhere near that river, contemplating red skies as the sun goes down, caught in thoughts of her own, much like the singer.
This model was awarded the 2023 Joisel Award in the technical category (second place).
